What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?

From a heart on the wrist to a full sleeve, tattoos are a way of transforming your skin into a breathtaking piece of art.

There are countless reasons why someone would get a tattoo, but there are also reasons for removing one – you could be unhappy with its quality, starting a new job, or simply want to change things up.

Whatever your reason, the safest and most effective way of removing an unwanted tattoo from your skin is through laser tattoo removal.

At Illusion Laser Clinic, our skilled practitioners have years of experience removing tattoos of all colours and sizes. They’ll use cutting-edge laser PicoSure removal equipment to safely wipe all traces of ink from your skin, restoring it to a blank canvas once more.

Did you know...

Some tattoo colours are easier to remove than others. Black and blue inks are generally the easiest to remove, while yellows, greens, and oranges can be more difficult.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Laser tattoo removal is a cosmetic procedure where a high-intensity laser is used to remove unwanted tattoos from your skin. The intense light of the laser travels into the pigment and breaks up the ink into tiny fragments, which are eventually absorbed into the bloodstream and passed out of the body.

Our clinic is equipped with market-leading PicoSure lasers, which can remove tattoos more quickly and thoroughly than older Q-Switch lasers. They can even remove:

  • Intense black ink
  • Multi-coloured tattoos
  • Stubborn tattoos that have been unsuccessfully treated in the past

Our Laser Tattoo Removal Process

Our PicoSure tattoo removal allows tattoos to be precisely removed without causing any damage to the surrounding skin. The process involves a few simple stages:

1

A high-intensity laser is positioned just above the skin of your chosen treatment area.

2

The energy emitted from the laser shatters your tattoo ink into tiny particles.

3

The particles are absorbed by your bloodstream and pass out of your body naturally.

4

Your tattoo will start to fade, and the process is repeated until it is removed altogether.

Laser Tattoo Removal FAQs

Who cannot have laser tattoo removal?

Unfortunately, our laser tattoo removal in Dorset cannot be carried out if you are pregnant or have a medical condition that makes you hypersensitive to lasers. We will also have to reschedule sessions if you have sunburn or a skin infection in the treatment area. As always, this will all be discussed during your consultation.

How soon after getting a tattoo can it be removed?

We would always recommend waiting at least 6 months after getting your tattoo before booking your laser removal sessions.

Can my tattoo be lightened, ready for a cover-up?

Of course! The tattoo does not have to be removed altogether, and we can stop treatments when you have reached the stage you are happy with.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Our laser tattoo removal in Dorset does come alongside slight discomfort but not necessarily pain. It can feel similar to being flicked with an elastic band.

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on the size of your tattoo and how deep the ink is in your skin. Tattoos can take anywhere from 6 to 12 sessions to remove altogether; we will be able to give you a rough idea after seeing your tattoo in person.

Are there any side effects?

After your sessions, it is likely that your skin will be red, itchy and slightly swollen. The tattoo itself will also scab over, but it is important not to pick the skin and instead allow it to heal naturally.
