Did you know...

The technology behind laser hair removal was actually developed for a completely different purpose! The first lasers used for hair removal were originally invented for use in medicine, specifically for treating tumours and lesions. It wasn’t until later that scientists realised the laser’s ability to target pigment could be harnessed for hair removal as well.

Where Can Laser Hair Removal Be Used?

We offer precise hair removal for various areas of the body, and will customise our treatments to align with your gender identity and personal preferences. Here are some of the areas we can focus on:

  • Face (upper lip, chin, sideburns)
  • Chest and back
  • Arms and legs
  • Bikini and Brazilian areas
  • Face (beard area)
  • Chest and back

You’ll usually need a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart to get the best results. How many sessions you’ll need depends on how much hair you’d like removed, where it’s located, its thickness, and other factors we’ll discuss in your consultation.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal allows you to prevent the growth of each hair deep underneath the skin, without the need for downtime. The process involves just three simple steps:

1

Lasers emit light energy, which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair.

2

This light energy converts into heat which will damage the hair follicles.

3

The damage to the follicles permanently impedes future hair growth.

Transitioning Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Can I get laser hair removal while on HRT?

Yes, you can get laser hair removal while on HRT. In fact, combining the two can often improve results by reducing unwanted hair growth more effectively!

You can safely start laser hair removal before, during, or after starting HRT, but you may want to wait a few months after going on it to see how your hair changes naturally. If you’re unsure or have any concerns, it’s a good idea to speak with your GP for more personalised advice.

Should I get laser hair removal before or after gender-affirming surgery (GAS)?

This depends on your individual needs and the type of surgery you’re planning:

  • If you decide to have laser hair removal before GAS, you should allow at least three months after your final treatment for hair regrowth to subside before surgery.
  • If you prefer to wait until after GAS, most experts recommend giving yourself about a year to fully heal and recover before starting or resuming laser treatments.

Since every surgeon may have specific guidelines regarding hair removal, it’s best to consult with your surgeon to make sure you’re on the right track.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you’ll need depends on factors like how thick your hair is, where it’s located, and your skin type. If you’re on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), you may need a few extra sessions compared to someone not on HRT – this is because hormonal changes can stimulate dormant hair follicles, causing new hair to grow.
